Animal Factory

Wow! I just watched an interview from Amy Goodman’s “Democracy Now” with David Kirby on his book “Animal Factory”. He explained the dangers of animal factories to humans (the diseases they cause) and the environment. I knew I didn’t like those factories. I have seen the dairy factories driving out towards Palm Springs, CA. It is disgusting to see the cows packed into corals where they can’t even move.

I knew they cows were fed bad feed from the reports on Mad Cow disease. But, I had no ideas about the chickens. This is a possible cause to the recent eggs with salmonella recall. I especially had no idea about what was done with the manures or the effects on the environment.

David talked about the fish kills that occur every year in the gulf from the manure run-off, where billions of marine life. I have never heard anything about this. I hear plenty about the oil spill and this is a yearly threat to the gulf.
